Dean Hawkinson, DVM

Dr. Dean began his career in 1973 in a local mixed practice. Today he works primarily with companion animals. Dean and his wife Joyce have three grown, married boys and six grandchildren. Dean is also a Sunday School teacher and the treasurer at Concordia Lutheran Church. Dean enjoys playing saxophone in both the Annandale and Maple Lake Community Bands.


Carl Larson, DVM

Dr. Carl grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota and graduated from Jefferson High School, then St. Olaf College, and finally the University Of Minnesota College Of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.  He lives in Watkins with his wife Kelly and their two girls Lauren and Morgan.  They have two dogs: Katie and Molly, two horses: Flicka and Little 7, two bunnies: Princess Cupcake and Snow White, and three cats: Clipper, Cowboy, and Maximus.  Dr. Carl enjoys an “all creatures” approach to veterinary medicine, spending about equal time in the clinics with small animals and on the farms with the large animals.  


Miranda Mackedanz, DVM

Dr. Miranda grew up in Sisseton, SD.  She graduated from Iowa State University in 2009.  Miranda works with both large and small animals, and enjoys the challenges and adventures involved with mixed animal practice. She and her husband Jay have a Chocolate Labrador named Allie.  In her spare time she enjoys hunting, fishing, gardening, horse back riding and spending time with family and friends.


Dan Patton, DVM

Dr. Dan grew up in Waseca, MN.  As a high school student, he worked at the West & West Veterinary Clinic in Waseca.  Dan's grandfather was a dairy farmer and raised horses, who always wished he had become a veterinarian.  He was a big influence on Dan's life.  Dan attained his undergraduate at the University of Minnesota, Duluth and as a student, worked at the Duluth Veterinary Clinic.  In 1980 he graduated from the U of M Veterinary College.  Dan has been with the Watkins Veterinary Clinic since 1980.  He enjoys general practice with both large and small animals.  Dan's wife, Sara, is also a veterinarian and works at the Monticello-Big Lake Pet Hospital.  Dan and Sarah have two sons and four grandchildren.


Art Reuck DVM

Art lives on a farm in central Minnesota with his wife and two daughters.  In his spare time he likes hunting, fishing, raising fruit trees and working with cattle.


Laura Wilant BVMS MSc MRCVS 

Dr. Laura is a Mid-western native who did her undergraduate work at the College of St. Benedict and her masters degree in equine science in 2008 and veterinary degree in 2011 at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, United Kingdom.  She enjoyed externships in South Dakota, Kentucky, and Rajastan, India before working in Montana and Minneapolis and volunteering with some humane societies.  Her areas of interest include animal comfort, preventative care and herd health, internal medicine.  She is enjoying the rich opportunities and experiences that only a mixed practice can offer.

Kristi Adams-Veterinary Technician-Watkins & Kimball

I grew up in Monticello, MN and have lived there my whole life.  I volunteer at homeward Bound Dog Rescue for the last 20 plus years. I own 3 large breed dogs who I love very much.  I graduated from MSB/Globe College in Waite Park, MN with my AAS degree in Veterinary Technology.  My hobbies are rollerblading, swimming, hanging out with friends, and anything that has to do with the outdoors.


Donna Anderson-Office Manager-Watkins

Donna has been working at the Watkins Veterinary Clinic since 2010 as their office manager.  Donna and her husband Rick live south of Litchfield.  They have one son, Ryan.  Ryan and his wife Hayley live in Milbank, South Dakota.  Donna and Rick have a Jack Russell named Molly.  Donna enjoys cooking, scrapbooking, and four-wheeling.  They four-wheel as much as possible as a family on trails in Minnesota and Wisconsin.


Nicole Elfman-Certified Veterinary Technician-Kimball

Nicole grew up in Maple Lake, Minnesota.  She graduated from Ridgewater Community College in Willmar, Minnesota.  In 2011 she began working at the Watkins and Kimball Veterinary Clinics.  Nicole currently lives in Annandale with her husband Scott and two Yellow Labradors, Laney and Paisley.  In her spare time she enjoys running, softball, hunting, and spending time with family and friends.


Emily Fischer-Veterinary Technician-Watkins & Kimball

I grew up north of Watkins on a small dairy farm. I live with my husband Mitch, my 2 kids Abby and Luke, and my cat Ella. I like spending my time with family and taking care of animals.


Kelly Hoffman-Veterinary Technician-Watkins & Kimball

Kelly Hoffman grew up in Elbow Lake, Minnesota.  She graduated from Minnesota School of Business in 2012 and immediately started working for the Kimball and Watkins Veterinary Clinics.  She and her husband Matt live in Hutchinson, Minnesota.  They have 3 dogs including a Golden Retriever, Black Lab, and Jack Russell Terrier that she adopted from Homeward Bound Dog Rescue.  In her spare time she likes bike riding, snowboarding, and going to concerts.


Ashley Kunkel-Veterinary Technician-Watkins & Kimball

Ashley grew up in Marty, MN and attended high school in Kimball, MN.  She attended Minnesota School of Business for Veterinary Technology and attained her AAS degree in 2009.  Ashley started her career at the Watkins Veterinary Clinic in the summer of 2009.  She has 3 furry children; Saydee & Zek both Labrador Retrievers, and Kaylee, a French bulldog. In her spare time she enjoys volleyball, basketball, any activities in the sun and water, and spending time with her family and friends.


Jen Kuseske-Veterinary Technician-Kimball

Jen has been working at the Watkins Veterinary Clinic since 2008, and Kimball Veterinary Clinic since 2010. She graduated from Minnesota School of Business in 2008 with a Veterinary Technology degree. She and her husband Josh have 2 boys Logan and Isaac. In her spare time she enjoys walking her dogs, horse back riding, spending time on the lake, 4-wheeling, camping, and most importantly spending time with my family and friends.


Joleen Rettmann-Certified Veterinary Technician-Watkins

I have been working as a certified veterinary technician at the Watkins Veterinary Clinic since 2004.  I ventured south from Ely to go to college and have been here ever since.  I am a proud mother of 2 beautiful girls.  We also have our share of pets; a golden retriever named Charlie, a border collie cross named Alphy, and a cat named Daphne.  When not working, I enjoy being on the pontoon boat fishing, quilting, camping and spending time with family and friends.


Heidi Schoenecker-Certified Veterinary Technician-Watkins & Kimball

I have over 20 years of experience in the veterinary field with most of those years right here at the Watkins Veterinary Clinic.  I graduated with an AAS degree in Veterinary Technology from Ridgewater College and shortly thereafter took and passed both the state and national exams to become certified.  I am very passionate about my job.  Every day is an adventure and I feel very lucky to be one of those few people who truly love their job!  I live in Watkins with my husband Jay, two daughters Lexie and Kennedy, and two Wheaten Terriers, Taz and Cooper.  In my spare time I enjoy reading, fishing, spending time with family, volunteering, and supporting my community and church.
